Limited100: car art, made to last

Every image Limited100 sells is limited to 100 editions, handmade in Nottinghamshire, numbered, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity. Founder Simon Wright tells the story in his own words.

How and why it started

"I've always been a petrolhead, from ragging a Metro around a friend's farm at 12 through to a ruinous V10 RS6 project today, at 36. In 2020 I moved into my first house and wanted a car on the wall, specifically a Lamborghini Miura. Almost every framed print I found looked low rent and not built to last.

I found a brilliant shot of a Miura by Birmingham photographer Paul Ward, rang him to ask about using it once, and then after some more tinkering the Limited100 concept proliferated from there. I had spent years looking for an online store concept that couldn't be copied, and wanted to utilise my background in marketing for luxury brands like AGA Rangemaster. This was something I could build properly from scratch, organically, and be proud of."

Why 100

"Each image is limited to 100 editions. One-of-ones would price most people out, and runs of 1,000 wouldn't be special. Each print is handmade in Nottinghamshire, numbered and shipped with a certificate of authenticity. Over 90% of production and materials are UK-sourced, which earned us Made in Britain status. We've sold over 800 prints so far, to customers in the UK, USA, Australia, Germany, Japan and beyond."

How the photographers are chosen

"Most reach out through word of mouth. First we ask whether there's a market for the image. Then we check the file will hold up at our largest formats, up to 5 metres wide, and stay pixel-perfect under a magnifying glass. The image has to be exceptional and properly edited, which can mean up to five hours per piece. It also helps if they're good people to work with. Our current roster includes Paul Ward, Abby Bowers, Tim Wallace, Thomas Boudewijn, and more."
