About The Curious Shelf

Most gift searches end in the same handful of big shops. The Curious Shelf is for the gifts you'd never have found: a megalodon tooth, a framed page from a classic novel, an original film poster, a hand-finished model of a Ferrari.

Tell the gift finder about the person you're buying for, or about yourself. It searches the live stock of our hand-picked independent shops, makers, and dealers, and brings back real pieces, each with the reason it suits them and a link straight to the shop. You buy from the shop itself, with its own delivery and returns.

How we choose our shops

Every shop is chosen by a person, not an algorithm. We look for businesses that are:

We visit each shop's website before it joins, and we keep checking. If you know a shop that belongs here, tell us at [email protected].

How the gift finder works

Your answers are matched against the current stock of our shops, which we read from their own websites each day, so the pieces you see are in stock. The final suggestions are written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, which may only suggest real products from our shops and must explain why each one suits the person.

Gift ideas are chosen only by how well they suit the person you describe. A shop can't pay to appear in your results. Partner shops may be featured elsewhere on the site, such as on the home page, in the Showcase, or in stories about their work.

How we're paid

When you buy through our links, some shops pay us a small commission. It never changes the price you pay.
